マタイによる福音 10:34-11:1

　（そのとき、イエスは使徒たちに言われた。）

「わたしが来たのは地上に平和をもたらすためだ、と思ってはならない。平和ではなく、剣をもたらすために来たのだ。わたしは敵対させるために来たからである。

　人をその父に、

　娘を母に、

　嫁をしゅうとめに。

　こうして、自分の家族の者が敵となる。

わたしよりも父や母を愛する者は、わたしにふさわしくない。わたしよりも息子や娘を愛する者も、わたしにふさわしくない。また、自分の十字架を担ってわたしに従わない者は、わたしにふさわしくない。自分の命を得ようとする者は、それを失い、わたしのために命を失う者は、かえってそれを得るのである。

　あなたがたを受け入れる人は、わたしを受け入れ、わたしを受け入れる人は、わたしを遣わされた方を受け入れるのである。預言者を預言者として受け入れる人は、預言者と同じ報いを受け、正しい者を正しい者として受け入れる人は、正しい者と同じ報いを受ける。はっきり言っておく。わたしの弟子だという理由で、この小さな者の一人に、冷たい水一杯でも飲ませてくれる人は、必ずその報いを受ける。」

　イエスは十二人の弟子に指図を与え終わると、そこを去り、方々の町で教え、宣教された。」

1034"Do not think that I have come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; 36and a man's foes will be those of his own household. 37He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; and he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; 38and he who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for my sake will find it. 40"He who receives you receives me, and he who receives me receives him who sent me. 41He who receives a prophet because he is a prophet shall receive a prophet's reward, and he who receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man shall receive a righteous man's reward. 42And whoever gives to one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he shall not lose his reward."111And when Jesus had finished instructing his twelve disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach in their cities.
