キリストに倣いて(1.1.5 キリストに倣って、いっさいのむなしいことを軽んずべきこと)

　しばしば次ぎの賢人の言葉を思い出すがよい、「目は見るに飽くことなく、耳は聞くに満つることがない」(伝道書1.8)と。だから目に見える物を愛する念を去り、見えない物に心を向けるがよい。なんとなれば、五官の欲に従う者はその良心を汚し神の恩恵を失うからである。

 Be offtimes mindful of the saying, The eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear with hearing. Strive, therefore, to turn away thy heart from the love of the things that are seen, and to set it upon the things that are not seen. For they who follow after their own fleshly lusts, defile the conscience, and destroy the grace of God.
