キリストに倣いて(1.13.3 誘惑に抵抗すること)

　この世に生きている限り、人はまったく誘惑の心配がないというわけには行かない。なんとなれば私たちは邪欲によって生まれ、誘惑の原因をわが身にもっているからである。

　一つの誘惑、一つの患難が去れば、また別な誘惑や患難があとからあとからやってきて、私たちはいつも何かを辛抱しなければならぬ。これは私たちが原始の幸福を失ったためである。

　多くの人は誘惑を避けようとして、かえっていっそう深くこれに落ちこんでしまう。

　ただ逃げるだけでは勝つことができない。忍耐と真の謙遜とによってこそ、私たちはすべての敵よりも強くされるのである。

　3. There is no man wholly free from temptations so long as he liveth, because we have the root of temptation within ourselves, in that we are born in concupriscene.

 One temptation or sorrow passeth, and another cometh; and always we shall have somewhat to suffer, for we have fallen from perfect happiness.

 Many who seek to fly from temptations fall yet more deeply into them.

 By flight alone we cannnot overcome, but by endurance and true humilty we are made stronger than all our enemies.
