キリストに倣いて(1.16.1 他人の欠点を耐え忍ぶこと)

　自分や他人の身において改めることのできぬ所は、神が別の摂理をしてくださるまで辛抱忍耐しなければならぬ。

　そして多分これは自分の試練となり、忍耐のためにいっそう役立つのだろうと思うがよい。忍耐がなければ、私たちの功績はほとんどなんの価値もないからである。

　しかしかような妨げに出会ったならば、神があなたを助け、柔和な心でこれを辛抱させてくださるよう、熱心に祈らねばならぬ。

　CHAPTER XVI  Of bearing with the faults of others

 Those things which a man cannnot amend in himself or in others, he ought patiently to bear, until God shall otherwise ordain.

 Bethink thee that perhaps it is better for thy trial and patience, without which our merits are but little worth.

 Nevertheless thou oughtest, when thou findeth such impediments, to beseech God that He would vouchsafe to sustain thee, that thou be able to bear them with a good will.
