キリストに倣いて(1.2.3 自分を軽んずること）

　多く知り深く学ぶほどあなたの生活がいよいよ聖にならないならば、それだけあなたは厳しく審判されるだろう。

　それゆえどんなに技芸や学問があっても高ぶってはならぬ。むしろあなたに与えられた知識のために恐れ慎しむべきである。

　もし自分は知識が豊富であり、理解が深いと思われるようなことがあったら、自分の知らないことはまだそれよりたくさんあるのだと思うがよい。

　「高ぶるな！」（ロマ書11.20）むしろ自分の無知を認めよ。

　あなたより学問も深く、掟にも通じている人がたくさんあるのに、なぜあなたは自分を他人よりも偉いと思うのか。

　もしほんとうにためになることを知り、かつ学びたいと思うならば、他人に知られず軽蔑されるのを喜ぶがよい。

 The greater and more complete thy knowlegde, the more severely shalt thou be judged, unless thou hast lived holily.

 Therefore be not lifted up by any skill or knowledge that thou hast; but rather fear concerning the knowledge which is given to thee.

 If it seemeth to thee that thou knowest many things, and understandest them well, know also that there are many more things which thou knowest not.

 Be not high-minded, but rather confess thine ignorance.

 Why desirest thou to lift thyself above another, when there are found many more learned and more skilled in the Scripture than thou?

 If thou wilt know and learn anything with profit, love to be thyself unknown and to be counted for nothing.
