キリストに倣いて(1.4.1 行ないを慎重にすること)

　すべての言葉、すべての思いつきを信用してはならぬ。どんなことでも、神のみ前に出て、慎重に、落ちついて、よく考えて見るがよい。

　悲しいことには、人は他人のこととなると、しばしば善よりも悪をはるかに信じやすく、かつ語りやすい。それほど私たちは弱いのである。

　しかし完徳の人は、どんな話でも容易には信じない。それは、悪に傾いていて、しばしば言葉で過失をしでかす人間の弱さを知っているからである。

　Chapter IV Of prudence in action

 We must not trust every word of others or feeling within ourselves, but cautiously and patiently try the matter, whether it be of God.

 Unhappily we are so weak that we find it easier to believe and speak evil of others, rather than good.

 But they that are perfect, do not give ready heed to every news-bearer, for they know man's weakness that it is prone to evil and unstable in words.
