キリストに倣いて(1.4.2 行ないを慎重にすること)

　ことを軽率に行なわず、また自分の意見を頑固に押し通そうともしないのは、非常に賢いことである。

　人の話をことごとくは信ぜず、また自分の聞いたこと信じたことを、すぐに他人にもらさないのも、やはり賢いことである。

　分別のある正しい人に相談するがよい。

　ひとりよがりの考えに従うよりも、むしろ自分よりももののわかった人の教えを求めよ。

　善良敬虔な生涯を送れば、人は神のおん目に賢明なものとなり、さまざまのことから教訓を得ることができる。

　人は心が謙遜になればなるほど、また神に従えば従うほど、万事にますます知恵と安心を得るだろう。

　Chapter IV Of prudence in action

 This is great wisdom, not to be hasty in action, or stubborn in our own opinions.

 A part of this wisdom also is not to believe every word we hear, nor to tell others all that we hear, even though we believe it.

 Take counsel with a man who is wise and of a good conscience; and seek to be instructed by one better than thyself, rather than to follow thine own inventions.

 A good life maketh a man wise toward God, and giveth him experience in many things.

 The more humble a man is in himself, and the more obeidient towards God, the wiser will he be in all things, and the more shall his soul be at peace.
